It is a generation that has fought hard against governments having authority to access software and telecommunication companies private user data.

However, the same TECH-GEN is careless and intentionally supports cyber insecurity by signing up to illegally modified applications. Regrettably, they would not listen when advised on the right thing to do. This is dangerous since oppressive regimes could actually use this as a method of harvesting private communications. This is possible by infecting devices using flaws in the softwares that have been built and distributed without approval, like GB WhatsApp. This generation has been brought up by very strict parents who controlled every step of their life, making them hanker for unconventionality and by the time they are grownups, they tend to become the “I don’t want to be told what to do” generation.
Can you imagine the damage one could incur if a person of ill-will gained access to your Google mail (Gmail) account? Ask John Podesta, Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager and he will tell you how it cost Secretary Clinton the presidency. It means they will have access to your Google photos, Google drive (including backups from other third party applications that utilize Google servers such as WhatsApp), Google documents, they would also know your location, and they would even know your text messages, who you call, the details of the conversation and everything you would have otherwise kept as a secret.

GB WhatsApp, is a very popular application used by the youth (especially those pursuing higher education) – which is very disheartening. An illegal variation to the official Facebook owned application WhatsApp, Its popularity can be attributed to the fact that it comes with many more additional features that are not offered by the official application. It flouts Google and Apple security dogmas as well as International software laws thus not offered on the android and Ios application delivery platform i.e. Playstore and Appstore respectively. It has features such as downloading statuses, modifying the user interface, changing the font to the desired font style, anti-delete, and ability to post statuses that last longer than thirty seconds among many other features.
The so called TECH-GEN (Technology generation) has been a target by politicians and hackers as a result of the “TECH-CARELESSNESS” in them. Hackers have managed to get a hold of the unsuspecting careless, poorly educated youth and profited billions of dollars. This is as a result of hackers using modified applications as credential harvesting tools as explained by Telegram founder and CEO, Durov.

Facts

1) WhatsApp is end to end encrypted.
2) WhatsApp is not a cloud based service thereby security is tremendously reduced.
3) WhatsApp is owned by Facebook.
4) WhatsApp has been hacked before
I feel so dejected when I see an educated generation, degree holders as well as students studying in highly respected institutions using the modified application, GB WhatsApp. It’s designed to look similar to the official application, offering similar capability of messaging but it’s extremely dangerous to use it for various reasons. The cipher and the algorithm used to build it, is unknown and therefore users cannot tell whether it has a backdoor or not, whether it can be triggered remotely or not. It is not released in beta mode before it is fully rolled out and therefore it is always full of bugs, or rather software defects. Given that they copy the original version, should a security weak line be detected and patched by the prior application, it takes a longer period of time to patch the latter. It is slow to get updates, of which users always have to go through a tiresome update process. For this reason it is easy for hackers to gain access to users’ cloistered communication.
Tactlessly, these degree graduates cannot pay attention to their own digital safety by avoiding the use of unofficial, illegally modified applications.
THE THREAT

You see, when you install GB WhatsApp, it asks for authorization to access your camera, storage, contacts as well as your location. This permission request is also done by the official platform, a trusted and accountable source. The issue is that nobody (apart from the developer), knows the code for the GB version. Willingly, because you are so desperate to make sure that your partner does not know that you are cheating on him or her, you quickly consent to these permission requests, thirsting to use the enticing and untested features of the moded application. What these poor educated brains cannot decode is that you have given an illegal software access to literally everything in your smartphone. You have given it storage access, which means it can read everything stored in your phone memory. It now has access to your contacts and therefore it knows who you are talking to and what exactly you are talking about. You have given it access to your camera and microphone which means it can be triggered remotely and anybody might watch or discretely listen to your conversations! Further to that, the attacker can download the contents of your device at your cost!
We don’t know whether it has security features built into it or rather, proper and accepted security features encoded in the software structure, yet you trust it enough and use it to share pictures of your credit cards, intimate pictures, photos of national identity documents, passwords to our banking accounts as well as bank account numbers, email addresses and their passwords, computer passwords, engage in company group conversations and many other daily activities that should remain confidential.
Gb WhatsApp is neither accountable to WhatsApp incorporation nor a government regulating entity. Therefore, any damages incurred such as leak of private data cannot be compensated by the developer. Given the ever rising popularity of GB WhatsApp, governments might approach the developer and even partner with them in order to deliver payloads to the unsuspecting users.
All I may say is that the right to digital privacy starts with you. You have the power to keep yourself safe or a tempting target to your enemies. Make the right decision.
