On December 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump announced the United States recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and ordered the planning of the relocation of the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This decision shocked the entire world.
In response, Islamic terror organisations responded with a wave of attacks accross the world. The first to do so, was Al-Hijra and Kenya was caught in the middle. On that day, we became the messengers, just again. Al-Hijra, formed in 2008 in Nairobi, Kenya serves as a wing of al-Shabaab. Al-Hijra, which is extensively interconnected with al-Shabaab both organizationally and operationally, consists primarily of Kenyan and Somali followers of al-Shabaab in East Africa. It has openly engaged in al-Shabaab recruiting in Kenya and facilitated travel of al-Shabaab members to Somalia for terrorism purposes.
In 2019, the Department of State amended the designation of al-Shabaab – an al-Qa’ida affiliate in Somalia – to include al-Hijra and other aliases. These aliases were added to al-Shabaab’s designations as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, and as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) under section 1(b) of Executive Order 13224.
Al-shabaab, was designated a terror organisation in 2018. That’s according to the State Department. This means that the deadly 2013 Westgate attack by the the organisation was not treated as a terrorist attack by the Obama administration.

A few hours ago, almost two years aafter the attack, Al Shabaab has released a video of those who carried out the dusit attack on 15th of January, 2019. Well, I’m not suprised by this action because it is something I was expecting. Simply put, I expected a response from Somalia after Donald Trump suddenly announced that he would withdraw American troops from Somalia. The terrorists know that we are on our own. America has had very few boots on the ground(they were officially deployed after the Trump administration declared Al-Shabaab a terror organisation) who have carried out at least 400 drone strikes over the past 3 years. These actions have had a major impact on crippling Al-Shabaab activities.
The release of the video is message to Kenyans, exit America and enter Al Shabaab! It is another way to say, American election is now our business and that we should pay attention on the administration changes in the USA and re-evaluate our foreign policies as a nation!
